Foodies & Fashionistas Flocking to The Wilshire

It’s no secret that River Oaks District has morphed into one of the hottest dining destinations in town thanks to high-profile concepts like Steak 48, Le Colonial, and Hopdoddy. The news that hasn’t gotten out yet is just how hot the neighborhood will get this summer – hundred-degree temperatures notwithstanding – when a bevy of high profile restaurants open in walking distance from The Wilshire.

One of the city’s most acclaimed restaurants – BCN Taste & Tradition – is rolling out MAD – the airport code for Madrid and a casual cousin to the Montrose-area fine dining destination – which is going into the restaurant space on the northern edge of River Oaks District. For residents at The Wilshire, that means a two-minute walk to Spanish-inspired small bites and finger foods after the Pintxos tradition along with large plates to share all-day and night.

Just a two-minute Uber or LYFT ride away, foodies and fashionistas will be flocking to no fewer than four high profile restaurants behind the Phillip Johnson-designed façade in the former Saks Fifth Avenue space. The buzziest new place in town – Fig & Olive – has already brought a sunny splash of the Cote d’Azur lifestyle to the neighborhood along with the requisite rosé, steak frites, and even a soundtrack to accompany the good life vis-à-vis the French Riviera.

Fig & Olive will soon have new neighbors in the form of legendary sushi spot Nobu – opening in June – followed in quick succession by Blanco Tacos & Tequila and the Dubai-import, The Spice Route Company.

The biggest surprise of all is Steak 48’s seafood sibling, Ocean 48. Keep that under your hat, as this one won’t be announced until later this month. If you can keep a secret, we can tell you that Ocean 48 will be located inside the loop and less than a mile from The Wilshire. Think: seafood reinvented set in a vibrant upscale atmosphere ranging from the dramatic to the intimate and specializing in world-class seafood and the great steaks they are known for at Steak 48. At its core, Ocean 48 will feature the highest graded chef-sourced sustainable fresh fish from around the world, enhanced with unique and interesting appetizers and side dishes that go beyond the traditional seafood menu.
